GPA & CGPA Calculator
Semester GPA, cumulative CGPA and the GPA you need next. Runs in your browser.
About this gpa & cgpa calculator
This GPA calculator works out your semester GPA and your cumulative CGPA from your courses, credits and grades. It also tells you the GPA you need in your remaining credits to reach a target CGPA.
It comes with the grade scales students actually use: the US 4.0 scale with or without plus and minus grades, the Bangladesh UGC 4.0 scale, the Indian 10-point CBCS scale, and a custom scale you can type in. On the Bangladesh scale you can enter marks instead of letters and it picks the grade for you.
Results update as you edit, and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
Features
Five grade scales
US 4.0 (A to F), US 4.0 with +/−, Bangladesh UGC 4.0, India 10-point CBCS, and a custom scale written as lines like "A = 4".
Marks to grade
On the Bangladesh UGC scale, switch to Marks (%) and type 77 to get A (3.75). The grade shows next to each mark.
Term GPA and CGPA together
Add your current CGPA and completed credits once, and both figures update as you change any course.
Target GPA planner
Enter a target CGPA and the credits you have left. It tells you the average you need, or that the target is already safe or out of reach.
Working shown
The quality points and credits behind your GPA are shown, so you can check the sum against your transcript.
Any number of courses
Add, rename or remove courses freely. Courses without credits or a grade are skipped and the page tells you so.
How to use the gpa & cgpa calculator
- 1Pick your grade scale and enter each course's credits and grade.
- 2Add your current CGPA and credits to get the cumulative figure.
- 3Set a target CGPA and the credits left to see the GPA you need.
When to use it
End of semester
Enter your results the day they come out and see your new CGPA before the official transcript updates.
Scholarship and honours targets
Many scholarships need a 3.50 CGPA to keep. The target planner shows whether next term has to be a 3.7 or a 3.9.
Choosing a course load
Try the target with 15 credits and with 18 credits to see how much a heavier term can move your average.
Applying abroad
Check your CGPA on your home scale before an admissions office converts it. Then keep your statement of purpose inside the limit with the word counter.
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is a credit-weighted average. For each course, multiply its grade points by its credits to get quality points. Add up the quality points, then divide by the total credits.
Say you took Calculus (3 credits, A = 3.75), Physics (3 credits, B+ = 3.25), Programming (4 credits, A+ = 4.00) and English (2 credits, B = 3.00) on the UGC scale. The quality points are 11.25 + 9.75 + 16 + 6 = 43. Divide by 12 credits and the term GPA is 3.58.
A 4-credit course moves your GPA twice as much as a 2-credit one. That is why a single bad grade in a big course hurts more than it seems.
How do I calculate CGPA from previous semesters?
Turn your old CGPA back into quality points by multiplying it by the credits you have completed. With a 3.40 CGPA over 45 credits, that is 153 points. Add this term's 43 points and 12 credits: 196 ÷ 57 = 3.44.
Averaging semester GPAs directly gives the wrong answer when terms have different credit loads. Always weight by credits, as this calculator does.
What is the Bangladesh UGC grading system?
The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh set a uniform scale for public and private universities. Many private universities still use their own variation, so check your handbook.
- 80% and above: A+ (4.00)
- 75% to 79%: A (3.75)
- 70% to 74%: A− (3.50)
- 65% to 69%: B+ (3.25)
- 60% to 64%: B (3.00)
- 55% to 59%: B− (2.75)
- 50% to 54%: C+ (2.50)
- 45% to 49%: C (2.25)
- 40% to 44%: D (2.00)
- Below 40%: F (0.00)
What GPA do I need to reach my target?
Multiply your target by the total credits you will have at graduation, subtract the quality points you already have, and divide by the credits left. With 196 points over 57 credits and 30 credits to go, a 3.60 target needs (3.60 × 87 − 196) ÷ 30 = 3.91.
If the answer is above the top of the scale, the target is out of reach in that many credits. The calculator then shows the best CGPA you could still finish with.

Tips
- Use the exact credit values from your course list. A 1.5-credit lab counts for half of a 3-credit course.
- If your school gives A+ 4.33, use the Custom scale and add a line "A+ = 4.33".
- Pass/fail and withdrawn courses usually carry no grade points. Leave them out unless your school counts them.
- Retaken courses often replace the old grade. Enter only the new attempt and lower your previous credits to match.
- For India, the page also shows an approximate percentage using CGPA × 9.5, the CBSE convention. Universities may use another formula, and the percentage calculator helps with those.
- Planning the weeks until exams? The date difference calculator counts the days and study days left.
Questions
How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add the results, and divide by the total credits. Enter your courses above and the calculator does this for you, showing the quality points it used.
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA usually means the average for one term, while CGPA is the cumulative average of every graded credit so far. Your CGPA moves more slowly as your credits build up.
How do I calculate CGPA from semester GPAs?
Weight each semester's GPA by its credits, add them, and divide by the total credits. A plain average of semester GPAs is only correct if every semester had the same number of credits.
What GPA is an A+ in Bangladesh?
On the UGC scale, A+ is 4.00 and needs 80% or more. A is 3.75 for 75% to 79%, and the scale steps down by 0.25 to D at 2.00 for 40% to 44%.
How is a 10-point CGPA converted to a percentage?
A common rule is CGPA × 9.5, which CBSE uses, so 8.2 becomes about 77.9%. Many universities set their own formula, so check your institution's rule before quoting a percentage.
Can I raise my CGPA from 2.8 to 3.0?
Usually yes, if enough credits remain. Enter your record and a 3.0 target, and the planner gives the exact GPA you need. Fewer credits left means a higher GPA is needed.
Is an A+ worth 4.0 or 4.33?
It depends on the school. Most US colleges cap at 4.0, but some give 4.33. Pick the US 4.0 +/− scale for 4.0, or set up a custom scale for 4.33.
Do failed courses count in GPA?
Yes, on most scales an F counts as 0 points with full credits, which pulls the average down. If you retake the course and your school replaces the grade, enter only the new result.
