About this image converter

This image converter changes pictures from one format to another: PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG, WebP to JPG or PNG, PNG to WebP, SVG to PNG and more. Add a single file or a whole batch, pick the format you need, and download the results.

The conversion runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no queue to wait in. There are no daily conversion limits and no sign-up.

It reads every format your browser can open, including GIF, BMP, ICO, AVIF and SVG. It can save JPG, PNG and WebP, plus AVIF in browsers that support it.

Features

  • All common pairs on one page

Convert to JPG, PNG or WebP from any image your browser can open. You don't need a separate page for each pair.

  • Batch conversion with ZIP download

Drop many files and they are converted one after another. Download each file, or all of them together as a ZIP.

  • Background color for JPG

JPG has no transparency. Pick the color that fills transparent areas, white by default, so logos don't end up on a black box.

  • Quality control

Set the quality for JPG, WebP and AVIF from 1 to 100. The default of 92 keeps the image close to the original.

  • SVG to PNG

Vector SVG files are drawn at their own size. If the SVG has no size, it is drawn 1024 pixels wide using its viewBox shape.

  • Checks the real format

The tool reads the first bytes of each file to find its true format, so a WebP saved with a .jpg name is still handled correctly.

  • Private and clean output

Files stay on your device. The converted images carry no EXIF data, so camera details and GPS location are removed.

How to use the image converter

  1. 1Add your images.
  2. 2Choose the target format.
  3. 3Download them one by one or as a ZIP.

When to use it

  • WebP images that won't open

Images saved from websites are often WebP. Convert them to JPG or PNG to open them in older editors or attach them where WebP isn't accepted.

  • Sites that only accept JPG

Many upload forms take only JPG. Convert PNG screenshots or scans before you upload.

  • Logos with transparency

Turn a JPG logo into PNG for editing, or turn an SVG logo into a PNG for documents and slides.

  • Faster websites

Convert PNG and JPG images to WebP to cut their size while keeping transparency where it exists.

  • Old formats

Convert BMP and ICO files into formats that every app understands.

Which image format should I use?

The right format depends on what the image shows and where it is going.

  • JPG: photos that need to work everywhere. Small files, no transparency.
  • PNG: screenshots, logos, text and anything that needs a transparent background. Lossless, so no quality is lost.
  • WebP: a modern format for the web. Smaller than JPG and PNG, with transparency, and supported by all current browsers.
  • AVIF: smaller still for photos, but slower to create and not supported by every app yet.
  • SVG: vector drawings that stay sharp at any size. Convert to PNG when an app can't open SVG.

What happens to transparency

PNG, WebP and AVIF can store transparent pixels, so converting between them keeps your transparent background.

JPG can't store transparency at all. When you convert to JPG, every transparent pixel is filled with the background color you choose. White suits most documents and websites. Choose a darker color if the image will sit on a dark page.

Does converting lose quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Every pixel is kept exactly, though the file may be larger than the original.

Converting to JPG, WebP or AVIF is lossy. At a quality of 90 or more the change is very hard to see. Converting the same image back and forth between lossy formats loses a little more detail each time, so convert from your original whenever you can.

Tips

  • Converting a JPG to PNG won't bring back detail that JPG compression removed. It only stops further loss.
  • For website images, WebP at a quality of 80 to 85 is a good default.
  • If a converted PNG is very large, the image is probably a photo. Use JPG or WebP instead.
  • Animated GIFs convert as a still image of the first frame.
  • Keep your originals. You can always convert again with different settings.

Questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add your WebP files, choose JPG under Convert to, and download. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick.

How do I convert PNG to JPG without a black background?

Choose JPG and set the Background color. White is the default, so transparent areas become white instead of black.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG keeps exactly what is in the JPG, but it can't restore detail that was lost when the JPG was saved. The file usually gets bigger.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG?

Yes in browsers that can open HEIC photos, such as Safari. Other browsers can't read HEIC, and the tool will tell you so.

Can I convert SVG to PNG?

Yes. The SVG is drawn at its own width and height, or 1024 pixels wide if it doesn't set a size, and saved as PNG with transparency.

Can I convert to AVIF?

Only if your browser can save AVIF images. The AVIF option appears automatically when it can.

Can I convert many images at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, and download them all as one ZIP file when they are done.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion happens inside your browser, and your images never leave your device.
