Screen Recorder
Record your screen, a window or a tab, with mic and webcam. Runs in your browser.
About this screen recorder
This online screen recorder captures your whole screen, one window or a single browser tab and saves it as an MP4 or WebM video, with your microphone, the tab's sound and a webcam bubble if you want them. It is for tutorials, bug reports, demos and quick walkthroughs you'd rather show than type.
It runs on a computer in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, with nothing to install. The video is recorded by your browser and kept in this tab. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no watermark or time cap.
Features
Screen, window or tab
Press Start and your browser's own picker opens. Choose a monitor, a single app window or one browser tab. This page leaves itself out of the tab list in Chrome and Edge, so you don't record the recorder by accident.
Mic and tab sound, mixed
Tick the microphone, the tab or system sound, or both. The two are mixed into one audio track, and a meter shows your mic level while you record.
Webcam bubble
Add your camera as a round bubble or a rounded rectangle in any corner, in three sizes. It is mirrored like a selfie view and drawn straight into the video.
MP4 or WebM
The format list shows only what your browser can record: MP4 with H.264, WebM with VP9 or WebM with VP8.
Size, frame rate and quality
Cap the height at 1080p or 720p, or keep full size. Pick 30 or 60 fps and a Small, Balanced or High bitrate.
Countdown, pause and timer
A 3 or 5 second countdown gives you time to switch windows. Pause and resume keep everything in one file, and the timer skips the paused time.
How to use the screen recorder
- 1Choose sound, microphone, webcam bubble and the file format.
- 2Press Start recording and pick a screen, window or tab in the browser's dialog.
- 3Pause or stop when you're done, preview the video and download it.
When to use it
Software tutorials
Record a window with your voice over it, then cut the false start and the ending before you share it.
Bug reports
Show the developer what happens instead of describing it. Record just the browser tab to keep other windows out.
Short clips for chat and docs
Record a ten-second interaction and turn it into a GIF for a README or a support article.
How do I record my screen with audio?
Tick Record tab or system sound and, if you want to talk, Record my microphone. Press Start recording. In the picker, the sound checkbox matters: in Chrome and Edge, tick Share tab audio when you pick a tab, or Share system audio when you pick an entire screen.
Where the sound can come from depends on the browser and the system:
- Chrome and Edge: tab audio on every desktop system. Whole-system audio only when sharing an entire screen on Windows or ChromeOS.
- Chrome and Edge on macOS and Linux: tab audio is the reliable choice. Whole-system sound may not be offered.
- Firefox and Safari: no tab or system sound at all. Your microphone still works.
MP4 or WebM: which should I pick?
MP4 with H.264 plays almost everywhere: Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and the upload forms of video and chat services. Safari records MP4, and so do Chrome and Edge from version 126. If MP4 is in the list, it is usually the right choice.
WebM with VP9 plays in every major browser and in VLC. Firefox records WebM only. VP8 is the older codec, kept for browsers that lack VP9.
Chrome writes WebM recordings without a duration in the header, so players can't show the length or let you seek. After you stop, this tool rewrites the header for recordings under 600 MB. The video and sound are copied, not re-encoded.
How big will my screen recording be?
The bitrate follows the size and frame rate of what you share. At 1080p and 30 fps, Balanced works out to about 5 Mbit/s, which is roughly 37 MB per minute. Small is about 21 MB per minute and High about 65 MB. A 720p recording at Balanced is about 17 MB per minute.
Screen content is mostly still, so a slide talk often comes out well under these numbers. To shrink a finished file for email, compress the video afterwards.
Can I record my screen on a phone?
No. iOS and Android don't give web pages access to the screen, in any browser. Use the recorder built into the phone. On iPhone and iPad, add Screen Recording to Control Center and start it there. On Android, open Quick Settings and tap Screen record.

Tips
- Share a single tab or window rather than the whole screen. Notifications, other chats and your bookmarks stay private.
- With the webcam bubble on, keep this tab open. It can sit in the background, but closing it ends the recording.
- Need a thumbnail for the video? Pause the player on a good frame, take a screenshot, then compress the screenshot before you upload it.
- Use 60 fps for games and fast scrolling, and 30 fps for slides and talking. It roughly halves the file size.
- Only need the narration? Pull the audio out as an MP3 once you've downloaded the video.
- For a voice-only take with no screen, the voice recorder gives you a level meter, noise filters and MP3 export.
Questions
Is my screen recording uploaded?
No. Your browser records the video and keeps it in this tab's memory. Nothing is sent to a server. Download each recording before you close or reload the page, because they are not saved anywhere else.
Why is there no sound in my recording?
Most often the sound checkbox in the browser's picker was left unticked. In Chrome and Edge, tick Share tab audio or Share system audio. Firefox and Safari can't capture tab or system sound; only your microphone is recorded there.
Is there a time limit?
No limit is set by the tool. The recording is held in memory, so the practical limit is your computer's RAM. At 1080p Balanced, an hour is around 2.2 GB, which most laptops cope with.
Can I record my screen and webcam at the same time?
Yes. Tick Webcam bubble, pick the camera, corner and size, then start. The camera is drawn into the video as a bubble, so you get a single file with both.
Does it work on iPhone or Android?
No. Mobile browsers don't allow web pages to capture the screen. Use the phone's own screen recorder from Control Center on iPhone or Quick Settings on Android.
Why did the recording stop by itself?
Sharing ended: you clicked the browser's Stop sharing bar, or closed the shared tab or window. The tool saves everything recorded up to that moment and shows a note.
Why can't I choose MP4?
Your browser can't record MP4. Firefox records WebM only, and Chrome and Edge added MP4 recording in version 126. Update the browser, or record WebM, which plays in every major browser and VLC.
