About this business name generator

This business name generator gives you 30 fresh name ideas at a time from a keyword, an industry and a style. It is for founders, freelancers and shop owners who want a long list to react to before they commit to a name.

Type a word that says what you do, say "roast" for a coffee brand. Pick one of 18 industries and a style: modern, classic, playful, techy or short. You get a mix of suffix names like Roastly, blends that merge two words at a shared letter, rhymes, compound words and invented brandable words that follow simple pronunciation rules. Each card says which pattern made it, so you learn which kind of name you like and can steer the next round.

There is no sign-up, no upsell and no AI service reading your idea. The names are built in your browser from our own word lists, and your favorites are saved in this browser only.

Features

  • Eight naming patterns

Suffixes, prefixes, keyword plus industry word, compound words, overlap blends, rhymes, classic forms like & Co. and invented words. The style you pick changes how often each one appears.

  • Invented words you can say out loud

Made-up names are built from real English syllable parts and then checked: no triple letters, no more than three consonants in a row, q always followed by u, and only word starts English actually uses. Words that contain something unfortunate are thrown out.

  • Length filter in letters

Set a minimum and maximum letter count. Spaces and symbols don't count, so Bloom & Co. is 7 letters. Short names are easier to fit on a logo and a domain.

  • Domain-style preview

Each idea shows how it would look as an address, lowercase with accents removed and & written as "and". Switch the ending between .com, .co, .io, .shop and others.

  • Favorites that stay put

Star the names you like. They are kept in your browser between visits, and you can copy the list or download it as a text file to share with a co-founder.

  • Real randomness

Every pick comes from your browser's cryptographic random generator, so Shuffle gives a genuinely new list and More ideas keeps adding names you haven't seen.

How to use the business name generator

  1. 1Enter one to five keywords and pick your industry.
  2. 2Choose a style and the letter range you want.
  3. 3Star the names you like, then copy or download your favorites.

When to use it

  • Naming a new shop

Try your product word with the Retail or Food list and the Short style to find something that fits a sign and a social handle.

  • Freelance studio names

Classic style with the Creative list gives names like Ink & Co. or Heritage Frames that read well on an invoice and a business card.

  • App and startup names

Techy style favors invented words and -ify, -io and -ix endings that tend to be easier to secure as a domain than dictionary words.

  • Product line or side project

Use the playful style for rhymes and friendly blends when the name should feel light.

What makes a good business name?

A good name is easy to say after hearing it once, easy to spell after seeing it once, and not already used by someone in your field. Test it the radio way: say it to a friend and ask them to type it. If they spell it three ways, you will lose visitors.

Length matters more than people think. Names of 4 to 10 letters fit on packaging, in an app icon label and in a domain without crowding. Descriptive names (Seattle Roast House) tell people what you do but are hard to trademark. Invented names (Roastiva) are easier to protect and to find as a domain, but you have to teach people what they mean.

How does this generator make names?

It combines your keywords with word lists picked for each industry and style, using fixed patterns. Blends look for overlapping letters first: Snack and Kitchen share a k, so you get Snackitchen. Rhymes come from a bank of about 120 short words with matching endings. Invented words are assembled from syllables and kept only if they pass the pronunciation rules.

Nothing is looked up online. That keeps your idea private, and it is also why the tool can't tell you whether a name is taken.

How do you check if a business name is available?

Do these checks before you print anything or file paperwork. This page can't do them for you because it makes no network requests.

  • Search the exact name and close spellings in a search engine and in app stores.
  • Look it up in your trademark office's database, such as the USPTO in the United States, the UKIPO in Britain or EUIPO for the EU, in the classes that cover your goods or services.
  • Check your local company or business name register.
  • Try the domain at any registrar, and the handle on the social networks you plan to use.

  • Shuffle a few times per style before you judge a style. Each run is only 30 ideas.
  • Read your shortlist aloud and count the words with the word counter if you are fitting it on a label or a tagline.
  • Once you pick a name, try colors for the logo with the color palette generator.
  • Print a test sign or make a QR code that points to your new domain, and see how the name looks on paper next to it.
  • Browse more tools for a new business in the generators section, from invoices to barcodes.

Questions

Is this business name generator free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no limit on how many lists you generate. There are no paid extras, so nothing is held back behind a plan.

Does it check if the domain name is available?

No. This page makes no network calls, so it can't query registrars. The domain line only shows how the name would look as an address. Check availability at any registrar before you decide.

Can I trademark a name from this tool?

Maybe, but the tool doesn't check trademarks. Search your national trademark database in the classes you trade in, and talk to a trademark attorney if the name matters a lot to your business.

How long should a business name be?

Aim for 4 to 10 letters and one to three syllables when you can. Shorter names are easier to remember, spell and fit into a domain. Use the min and max letter filter to keep the list in that range.

What are brandable names?

Brandable names are invented or unusual words, like Roastiva, that don't describe the product directly. They are easier to own as a trademark and domain, and you give them meaning through your brand.

Are the names random or AI generated?

They are built from word lists and patterns, with choices made by your browser's cryptographic random generator. No AI model is involved, and the same keyword gives a different list each time.

Where are my favorite names saved?

In this browser's local storage on this device. They are not uploaded. Clearing site data or using a private window removes them, so copy or download the list if you want to keep it.

Why do some names look unusual?

Invented and blended names are meant to be new words. If a style gives too many odd ones, switch to Classic or raise the minimum letters, which favors names built from real words.
