Random Picker & Spin Wheel
Pick names, spin a wheel, roll dice, flip coins, make teams. Runs in your browser.
About this random picker & spin wheel
This random picker chooses names from a list, spins a wheel, draws random numbers, flips coins, rolls dice, splits people into teams and shuffles lists. It is for teachers, giveaway hosts, team leads and anyone who needs a draw that nobody can argue with.
Paste your names once, one per line, and every mode uses the same list. Pick one winner or ten. Spin the wheel and drop each winner after their turn. Split a class of 31 into 4 groups and get sizes of 8, 8, 8 and 7. Every result lands in a history panel, so you can show the whole sequence later.
All of it runs in your browser with the Web Crypto random generator. Your class list or customer names are never uploaded, and there is no account, share link or saved wheel stored on a server.
Features
Seven tools, one list
Pick names, Wheel, Numbers, Coin, Dice, Teams and Shuffle sit on one page. Switch modes without retyping anything. The list ignores blank lines and has a one-click Remove duplicates button.
A wheel that is decided fairly
The winner is drawn with crypto.getRandomValues before the wheel starts turning. The spin of 6 to 8 turns is only the show. Turn on Remove the winner after each spin to run an elimination draw.
Random numbers with or without repeats
Set any whole-number range, ask for up to 10,000 numbers, and tick No repeats for lottery-style draws. The tool tells you when you ask for more unique numbers than the range holds.
Coins and dice in bulk
Flip up to 1,000 coins and see the heads count and percentage. Roll up to 50 dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 or 100 sides, with a running total.
Even teams
Choose a number of teams or a team size. Names are shuffled, then dealt out in turn, so team sizes never differ by more than one.
History you can copy
The last 100 results are listed with the time and the mode. Copy the history into a chat or a spreadsheet as a record of the draw. It clears when you close the page.
Keyboard and reduced motion
Press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) to run the current mode. If your system asks for reduced motion, the wheel shows its result at once instead of spinning.
How to use the random picker & spin wheel
- 1Choose a tool: names, wheel, numbers, coin, dice, teams or shuffle.
- 2Paste your names one per line, or set the range or dice.
- 3Press the button or Ctrl+Enter. Every result is kept in the history.
When to use it
Cold-calling in class
Paste the register, spin the wheel, and tick Remove the winner so every student gets one turn before anyone gets a second.
Social media giveaways
Paste the commenter names, use Remove duplicates so nobody gets extra chances by commenting twice, then pick one or several winners. Copy the history as proof of the draw.
Workshop groups
Split 24 attendees into groups of 4 in one click, then copy the team lists into the meeting chat.
Game night without the box
Roll 2d6 for a board game, a d20 for a tabletop session, or flip a coin to decide who goes first.
Presentation or review order
Shuffle the names of everyone presenting, put the shuffled order back in the list, and work down it. When you need the opposite, sort the list alphabetically instead.
Is this random picker truly random?
It uses crypto.getRandomValues, the Web Crypto API built into every modern browser. That generator is seeded by your operating system's entropy source and is designed for security work, which is a much higher bar than a classroom draw. The common shortcut, Math.random, is not built for unpredictability, so this tool does not use it.
Getting a fair pick from random bits needs one more step. If you take a random 32-bit number and divide by 3, the remainders 0, 1 and 2 are not quite equally likely. The tool uses rejection sampling: it throws away the few values that would cause that bias and draws again. Shuffles and team splits use the Fisher–Yates algorithm, which gives every possible order the same chance.
Why did the same name win twice?
Each spin or pick is independent. With 10 names, any single name has a 1 in 10 chance on every draw, and the chance that the next winner repeats the last one is also 1 in 10. Over a lesson with 20 draws, you should expect a few repeats. That is what real randomness looks like.
If repeats are not what you want, turn on Remove the winner after each spin on the wheel, or Remove picked names from the list in Pick names. Each winner then drops out until you restore the list.
How are teams split evenly?
The list is shuffled with Fisher–Yates, then names are dealt one at a time to Team 1, Team 2, Team 3 and back to Team 1, like dealing cards. With 10 people and 3 teams you get 4, 3 and 3. If you choose People per team instead, the tool works out the number of teams by rounding up, so 10 people in teams of 4 gives three teams of 4, 3 and 3.

Tips
- Clean a messy list before a draw. Paste it into a duplicate line remover first, or use the Remove duplicates button here.
- Want one name to have better odds? Add it twice. Each line is one equal entry.
- Building a demo and need people who don't exist? The Fake Data Generator invents thousands of names, emails and addresses.
- For a public giveaway, screen-record the spin or copy the history straight after the draw.
- Need a random secret rather than a random winner? Use the Password Generator, which draws from the same Web Crypto source.
- With more than 120 entries, the wheel hides slice labels to stay readable. The winner is still announced in full under the wheel.
Questions
How do I pick a random name from a list?
Paste the names one per line, choose Pick names, and press Pick a name. To draw several winners at once, set How many to pick. Each pick in a draw is a different name.
Is the spinning wheel really random?
Yes. The winner is chosen with the browser's cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts moving. The animation then lands on that slice at a random spot, so speed and timing cannot change the result.
Can I stop the same person winning twice?
Yes. On the wheel, tick Remove the winner after each spin. In Pick names, tick Remove picked names from the list. Winners are taken out of the list until you add them back or press Sample names.
How do I generate random numbers without repeats?
Choose Numbers, set the minimum and maximum, enter how many you want, and tick No repeats. For example, 6 unique numbers from 1 to 49. You can also sort the results.
What are the odds of heads on a coin flip?
Exactly 50%. Each flip is independent, so earlier results do not change the next one. Flip 1,000 coins at once and you will usually see somewhere around 480 to 520 heads, rarely exactly 500.
How do I split a group into random teams?
Paste the names, choose Teams, then pick either a number of teams or a number of people per team. Press Make teams. Sizes differ by at most one person, and you can copy all the teams at once.
Are the names I enter uploaded or saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The history is kept only in the open page, so it disappears when you close or reload it.
How many names can I put on the wheel?
There is no fixed limit. Up to 120 entries show their labels on the wheel. Above that, slices are drawn without text so the wheel stays readable, and the winner is still announced in full.
Can I use this for an official prize draw?
It gives a fair, unpredictable result, but it does not produce a certified record. For prizes with legal rules, check your local requirements, and keep a screen recording or the copied history as your own evidence.
