Calendar Converter (Gregorian, Hijri, Bengali)
Convert dates between Gregorian, Hijri and Bengali calendars. Runs in your browser.
About this calendar converter (gregorian, hijri, bengali)
This calendar converter turns any date into the Gregorian, Hijri (Islamic) and Bengali (Bangla) calendars, in every direction. Open it and you see today's date in all three, so you can answer "what is the Bangla date today?" or "what is the Hijri date today?" without typing anything.
Enter a date in any of the three and the other two appear at once. Hijri dates come with English month names and in Arabic script. Bengali dates come in Bengali script with Bengali digits, like ১৪ কার্তিক ১৪৩৩, plus the English spelling (14 Kartik 1433 BS), the weekday and the season.
The Bengali side follows the Bangladesh national calendar, including the 2019 revision by Bangla Academy. The Hijri side uses the Umm al-Qura calendar by default, with a one-day adjustment for places where the new moon is sighted later. Everything runs in your browser.
Features
Three calendars, every direction
Convert from Gregorian, Hijri or Bengali. When you switch the input calendar, the date you were on carries over. A month-by-month table shows when each Bengali month starts that year.
Choice of Hijri method
Pick Umm al-Qura, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, or one of two tabular Islamic calendars. The card also says whether the month has 29 or 30 days.
Moon sighting adjustment
Shift the Hijri date by one day either way to match your local mosque or national announcement. In Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, −1 day often matches.
Bengali rules that match the date
Dates from 16 October 2019 use the revised month lengths. Earlier dates use the 1987 rule that was official at the time. You can force either rule if you need to.
How to use the calendar converter (gregorian, hijri, bengali)
- 1Choose the calendar you are converting from.
- 2Enter the date. Use the Hijri day adjustment to match local moon sighting.
- 3Read the date in all three calendars and copy the one you need.
When to use it
Finding today's Bangla date
Check the date for a letter, a wedding card or a school notice written in Bangla, with Bengali digits ready to copy.
Planning around Ramadan and Eid
Enter 1 Ramadan or 1 Shawwal for the coming Hijri year to get an expected Gregorian date, then adjust by a day once the moon is sighted.
Converting a birth date
Know your birthday in only one calendar? Convert it, then work out the exact age from the Gregorian date.
Reading old documents and deeds
Land papers and family records in Bangladesh often carry Bengali dates. Convert them to Gregorian, and if the text was typed in an old Bijoy font, convert the Bijoy text to Unicode Bangla first.
How does the Hijri calendar work?
The Hijri calendar is lunar. It has 12 months of 29 or 30 days, so a year has 354 or 355 days, about 11 days fewer than a Gregorian year. That is why Ramadan moves through the seasons. Year 1 began with the migration of the Prophet from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE.
Traditionally, a month starts when the new crescent moon is seen, so two countries can start the same month a day apart. The Umm al-Qura calendar avoids this by computing month starts in advance; it is the official civil calendar of Saudi Arabia. Tabular calendars are simpler still: they use a fixed 30-year cycle with 11 leap years, and they can drift a day or two from what is actually seen.
The Umm al-Qura data in browsers covers the years 1300 to 1600 AH (roughly 1882 to 2174 CE). Outside that range the tool tells you the result is an arithmetic estimate.
What changed in the 2019 Bangla calendar revision?
Bangla Academy revised the Bangladesh national calendar in 2019 so that national days always fall on the same Bengali date. The rule took effect on 16 October 2019, the first 31st of Ashwin.
- Boishakh, Joishtho, Asharh, Srabon, Bhadro and Ashwin: 31 days each.
- Kartik, Ogrohayon, Poush and Magh: 30 days each.
- Falgun: 29 days, or 30 when the Gregorian year has a 29 February.
- Chaitra: 30 days.
- Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, is always 14 April. 21 February is always 8 Falgun, 26 March is 12 Chaitra and 16 December is 1 Poush.
- Under the older 1987 rule, only the first five months had 31 days, and Falgun had 31 days in a leap year.
How do you convert a Gregorian year to a Bengali year?
Subtract 593 if the date is on or after 14 April, and 594 if it is before. So 30 October 2026 falls in 1433 BS, while 1 March 2026 is still in 1432 BS. BS stands for Bangabda, the Bengali era.
One catch: West Bengal uses an astronomical almanac instead, so its dates can differ from Bangladesh by a day or two. This tool follows the Bangladesh calendar only.

Tips
- If your local Hijri date is one day behind the result, choose −1 day. The setting applies to both directions of conversion.
- Zakat is due after one full Hijri year. Once you know the date, the Zakat Calculator works out the amount.
- To find how long ago or how far away a date is, count the days between two dates using the Gregorian result.
- Coordinating Eid calls with family in another country? Check the hour in the Time Zone Converter too.
Questions
What is the Bangla date today?
The Today strip at the top of the tool shows it, in Bengali script and in English. It follows the Bangladesh national calendar as revised by Bangla Academy in 2019.
How do I convert a Hijri date to Gregorian?
Choose Hijri under Convert from, then enter the day, month and year. The Gregorian and Bengali dates appear straight away.
Why is the Hijri date one day different from my local calendar?
Because Islamic months begin when the new moon is sighted, and sighting differs by country. This tool uses the calculated Umm al-Qura calendar. In Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, picking −1 day often matches the local date.
Which Hijri calendar does this tool use?
Umm al-Qura by default, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia. You can switch to the tabular civil or tabular astronomical Islamic calendar, which follow a fixed 30-year cycle. All three come from your browser's built-in calendar data.
Does Ashwin have 30 or 31 days?
Since the 2019 revision, Ashwin has 31 days in Bangladesh. Before 16 October 2019 it had 30. The tool applies the rule that was in force on the date you enter.
When is Pohela Boishakh?
In Bangladesh, Pohela Boishakh is always 14 April. In West Bengal it follows an astronomical almanac and falls on 14 or 15 April, which is why the two sometimes celebrate on different days.
Why does Falgun sometimes have 30 days?
Because Falgun contains 29 February. In a Gregorian leap year Falgun gets 30 days instead of 29, which keeps Pohela Boishakh fixed on 14 April every year.
