Split PDF
Extract pages or split a PDF into several files. Runs in your browser.
About this split pdf
Split PDF pulls pages out of a PDF and saves them as new files. Keep one chapter, separate a bundle of invoices, drop a cover page, or cut a long document into equal parts. You type the pages you want, see a preview of the files you will get, and download them.
The whole job runs in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded, so private documents never leave your device. There is no sign-up, no page cap and no limit on how many times you use it.
Pages are copied as they are, so text stays searchable and images keep their original quality.
Features
Four ways to split
Ranges makes one PDF per range. Extract puts all the pages you list into one PDF. Every page saves each page as its own file. Every N pages cuts the document into equal parts.
Flexible page syntax
Type 1-3, 5, 8- and the tool understands it. Open ranges like 8- (to the end) and -4 (from the start), the word last, and reversed ranges like 5-3 all work.
Live preview
Before you split, a list shows every file that will be created, with its pages and file name. Mistakes such as a page number past the end are explained in plain words.
ZIP or single files
When the split makes several files, download them all as one ZIP or pick individual files. A single result downloads as a normal PDF.
Clear file names
Output files are named after your original, like report_pages-01-03.pdf. Page numbers are zero-padded so the files sort in the right order.
Private and unlimited
Processing happens on your device. There is no upload, no account and no daily task limit.
Original quality
Pages are copied without being turned into images or recompressed, so the output looks exactly like the source.
How to use the split pdf
- 1Choose a PDF.
- 2Pick a mode: Ranges, Extract, Every page or Every N pages, and type pages like 1-3, 5, 8-.
- 3Download the result as one PDF or a ZIP.
When to use it
Send just the part that matters
Extract the two pages of a contract that need a signature, or one chapter of a manual, instead of sending the whole file.
Separate scanned documents
A scanner often saves a whole stack as one PDF. Split it into one file per letter or receipt with a few ranges.
Split statements and invoices
Break a combined statement into monthly files, or use Every N pages when every document has the same length.
Meet upload size limits
Some portals reject large files. Split a long PDF into smaller parts that fit under the limit.
Remove unwanted pages
Use Extract with a range like 2- to drop a cover page, or list only the pages you want to keep.
How to write page ranges
Separate pages and ranges with commas. Spaces are optional, and empty entries such as a trailing comma are ignored. Page numbers start at 1.
- 1-3 means pages 1, 2 and 3.
- 5 means page 5 on its own.
- 8- means page 8 to the last page.
- -4 means page 1 to page 4.
- last means the final page.
- 5-3 means pages 5, 4 and 3, in reverse order.
Ranges vs Extract: which one to pick
Both modes use the same page list. The difference is how many files you get. Ranges creates one PDF for each range you type, so 1-3, 5, 8- gives three files. Extract puts all of those pages into a single PDF, in the order you typed them.
Use Ranges to break a document into parts. Use Extract to build a shorter version of one document, or to reorder pages, for example 3, 1, 2.
Why split files can add up to more than the original
Pages in a PDF often share resources such as fonts and logos. When you split, each new file needs its own copy of the resources its pages use. So ten single-page files can be larger in total than the original document, even though nothing was lost or recompressed.
This is normal and does not affect quality. If you need smaller files, split into fewer, larger parts with Every N pages.
Why use Mavros
| Mavros | Typical upload sites | |
|---|---|---|
| Where files are processed | In your browser, never uploaded | Uploaded to a remote server |
| Page or size cap | Only your device's memory | Page and size caps on free plans |
| Task limit | None | A few tasks per hour or day |
| Open and reversed ranges | 8-, -4, last and 5-3 all work | Often strict numeric ranges only |
| Preview before splitting | List of every output file | Varies, sometimes none |
| Account or sign-up | Not needed | Often required for larger jobs |
Tips
- Check the preview list before splitting. It shows the exact pages and file names you will get.
- To reverse a whole document, choose Extract and type last-1.
- Every N pages is the fastest way to split forms or statements that all have the same number of pages.
- If your PDF is password-protected, remove the password first in the app that created it, then open the new file here.
- After splitting, you can change the range and split again. The old result is cleared so you never download a stale file.
Questions
How do I split a PDF into separate pages?
Choose your PDF, pick Every page, and click Split. Each page becomes its own PDF, and you can download them all as a ZIP.
How do I extract specific pages from a PDF?
Choose Extract, type the pages you want, such as 2-4, 7, and click Create PDF. You get one PDF with just those pages.
How do I write page ranges?
Separate ranges with commas. For example 1-3, 5, 8-10 selects pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10. 8- runs to the last page, -3 means pages 1 to 3, and 5-3 gives pages 5, 4 and 3.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and split in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are. Text stays searchable and images are not recompressed.
Can I split a PDF into equal parts?
Yes. Choose Every N pages and set how many pages each file should have. The last file holds whatever pages are left over.
Why are the split files bigger in total than the original?
Each new file carries its own copy of shared fonts and images. The content is the same; it is just stored once per file instead of once overall.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not at the moment. Remove the password in the app that created the file, then open the unlocked copy here.
Is there a limit on pages or file size?
There is no fixed limit. Very large files depend on your device's memory, because everything runs locally.
