About this add watermark to image

This tool adds a text or logo watermark to your photos in the browser, one image or a whole batch at a time. It's for photographers sending proofs, sellers listing products and anyone who posts their own work and wants their name on it.

Type a name or a © line, or drop in your logo. Pick a corner, the center or a tiled pattern, and every photo in the batch gets the same mark. Download them singly or as a ZIP.

Your images stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded, there's no cap on the number of photos, and we never add our own branding to your files.

Features

  • Text or logo

Write any text up to 120 characters in six font styles, with bold, a color picker and quick swatches. Or use a PNG, SVG, JPG or WebP logo, keep its colors or turn it all white or all black.

  • Sizes that scale with each photo

Text size and logo width are set as a percentage of the image width. A 5% mark looks the same on a 1080 px Instagram crop and a 6000 px camera file.

  • Nine positions or tiled

Pick any corner, edge or the center with a margin from 0 to 15%. Tiled mode repeats the mark across the image with adjustable spacing and an optional brick-style offset.

  • Opacity, rotation and effects

Set opacity from 5 to 100%, rotate from −180° to 180°, and add a soft shadow or an outline. The outline color switches between black and white automatically so it contrasts with your text.

  • Live preview, batch output

The preview redraws as you change anything. Click a finished file to preview it. Files come out named like beach-watermarked.jpg.

  • Upright phone photos

The EXIF orientation tag is applied before the mark is placed, so bottom right really means the bottom right of the photo you see.

How to use the add watermark to image

  1. 1Drop, browse or paste your photos. A sample photo shows the default mark.
  2. 2Type your text or add a logo, then set size, opacity, rotation and a position or Tiled.
  3. 3Check the live preview and download each photo or all of them as a ZIP.

When to use it

  • Client proofs

Tile "PROOF" at 30% opacity and −30° across a shoot, then deliver clean files after payment.

  • Product and listing photos

Add a small shop logo in the bottom corner of every photo in one go so the pictures still credit you when they're reused elsewhere.

  • Copies of ID documents

When a landlord or agency asks for a scan of your passport, a tiled line such as "For flat rental only, June 2026" makes the copy far less useful to anyone else.

Where should a watermark go on a photo?

It depends on what you're protecting against. A small mark in a corner credits you without spoiling the picture, but anyone can crop it off in two seconds. A mark across the middle or a tiled pattern is much harder to remove, at the cost of getting in the way of the image.

A practical split: use a corner mark at 50 to 70% opacity for portfolio and social posts, where you want people to enjoy the photo. Use a tiled or centered mark at 20 to 40% for proofs, previews and documents, where protection matters more than looks.

How big should a watermark be?

For a corner credit, text between 3 and 6% of the image width reads well without shouting. On a 4000 px wide photo, 5% gives letters about 200 px tall. For a logo in a corner, 12 to 20% of the width is a common range.

Because this tool works in percentages, those numbers hold for every photo in a batch. If a long caption would run past the edge of a narrow image, the mark shrinks to fit and the file row says so.

Does a watermark protect my copyright?

A watermark doesn't create copyright. Under the Berne Convention, you own the copyright in your photo the moment you take it, with or without a notice. What a visible mark does is tell people who made the image and discourage casual reuse.

It can also help if things go wrong. In the United States, 17 U.S.C. § 1202 makes it unlawful to remove copyright management information, such as a name or notice, in order to hide infringement. Laws differ by country, so treat this as background, not legal advice.

Tips for a watermark that's hard to remove

No visible mark is perfectly safe from modern editing tools. These choices make removal much harder:

  • Cross areas with detail, such as faces, fabric or foliage, not a flat sky.
  • Use a tiled pattern with offset rows instead of a single mark.
  • Keep opacity low enough to see through, about 25 to 40%, so it blends with the picture.
  • Share a smaller copy online and keep the full-resolution original to yourself.

Tips

  • Pick All white for a dark logo on mostly dark photos. A logo that is all one color always reads better than a full-color one at low opacity.
  • Shrink the watermarked photos for the web with the image compressor. A 6 MB camera file often drops below 1 MB with no visible change.
  • Need different sizes as well? Run them through the batch image editor first to resize and rename, then add the mark here.
  • Saving here re-encodes the image, which drops camera details and GPS. To check what a photo carries before you post it, open it in the EXIF viewer.
  • Watermarking a document rather than photos? The PDF watermark tool stamps every page of a PDF.

Questions

How do I add a watermark to many photos at once?

Drop all the photos in together. They all get the same text or logo, position and opacity, and you download them as one ZIP. There's no file limit; photos are processed one at a time.

How do I make a watermark transparent?

Lower the Opacity slider. Around 25 to 40% lets the photo show through while the mark stays readable, and 50 to 70% suits a small corner credit.

Can I use my logo as a watermark?

Yes. Choose Logo image and add a PNG, SVG, JPG or WebP file. A PNG or SVG with a transparent background looks best. You can make it all white or all black and set its width as a percentage of each photo.

Why is my watermark bigger on some photos than others?

In proportion, it isn't. Size is a percentage of each image's width, so the mark is the same proportion everywhere. A narrow portrait photo gets fewer pixels but the same proportion.

Will adding a watermark reduce image quality?

Only slightly, and only for lossy formats. JPG and WebP are re-compressed when saved, at quality 92 by default, which is hard to tell apart from the original. Choose PNG if you need a lossless copy.

Can someone remove my watermark?

A determined person with editing or AI tools can remove most visible watermarks, especially a small one in a corner. A tiled pattern across detailed parts of the image takes far more effort to remove cleanly.

Does this keep my photo's EXIF data?

No. The image is redrawn and saved again, so camera details, dates and GPS location are not copied over. The orientation is applied first, so photos stay upright.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The watermark is drawn on a canvas inside your browser and the files are saved straight to your device.
