About this fdr calculator bangladesh

This FDR calculator shows how much a fixed deposit in a Bangladeshi bank pays at maturity after source tax and excise duty. A DPS mode does the same for a monthly deposit pension scheme. It is for anyone comparing bank rates, planning a renewal or checking the figure on a maturity slip.

The amount you actually receive is lower than the gross interest, because the bank deducts source tax and excise duty. Here you set both, choose how the bank counts days, and see every term in a table with real dates.

Amounts use lakh and crore grouping (৳5,00,000). The rates and the tax rules are inputs, so you can match your own bank. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Features

  • Maturity after tax and excise

Source tax at 10%, 15% or your own rate, and excise duty by balance slab, as a fixed yearly amount, or left out.

  • Auto-renewal that compounds

Renew a 1, 3, 6 or 12-month FDR as many times as you like. Choose to roll the net interest in, or take it out and renew only the principal.

  • Bank day count options

Interest by months ÷ 12, actual days ÷ 360 or actual days ÷ 365, with the real start and maturity date of each term.

  • DPS that matches bank tables

Interest accrues monthly and is added every quarter, the method that reproduces published bank maturity tables. See the before-tax figure the bank prints and what you actually get.

  • Net yield

The quoted rate converted to a yearly return after tax and excise, so you can compare an FDR with other options fairly.

How to use the fdr calculator bangladesh

  1. 1Choose FDR or DPS and enter the amount, rate and term or tenure.
  2. 2Set the source tax rate, excise duty and, for FDR, the renewals.
  3. 3Read the maturity amount after deductions and the term-by-term or yearly table.

When to use it

  • Comparing bank FDR rates

Put in two banks' rates and see the difference in taka after deductions, not just in percentage points.

  • 3-month or 1-year FDR

Compare four 3-month terms with one 1-year term at the same rate and see what the quarterly renewals add.

  • Planning a monthly DPS

Find the maturity of a 5 or 10-year DPS before you sign up, and check it against the bank's table.

How is FDR interest calculated in Bangladesh?

Banks pay simple interest for the term and pay it at maturity: interest = principal × rate × term. A 1-year FDR of ৳5,00,000 at 10% earns ৳50,000 gross. If the FDR renews automatically, the net amount becomes the new principal, so a 3-month FDR renewed four times compounds every quarter.

The day count is the part people miss. Some banks use months ÷ 12. Others, such as BRAC Bank on its general fixed deposit, calculate on a 360-day year, so 365 days at 10% pays 10% × 365 ÷ 360. On ৳5,00,000 that's ৳50,694.44 instead of ৳50,000. Check your bank's FDR terms and pick the matching option.

Using the same ৳5,00,000 at 10%: one 1-year term gives ৳50,000 gross. Four 3-month renewals give ৳51,712.96, because each quarter's interest earns interest in the next.

How much tax is deducted from FDR interest?

Under section 102 of the Income Tax Act 2023, banks deduct tax at source from interest on savings, fixed and term deposits. The usual rate for individuals is 10%. Under section 142, the rate is 50% higher, so 15%, if you can't show a proof of submission of return (PSR).

On the 1-year example, 10% tax takes ৳5,000 and 15% takes ৳7,500. The tax is taken from the interest, not the principal, and you can claim it as tax already paid when you file your return. You can check your full tax position with the Bangladesh income tax calculator.

What is excise duty on a bank account?

Excise duty is a fixed charge taken once each calendar year when an account's balance crosses the exemption limit at any time in that year. It applies to FDRs and DPS accounts as well as savings accounts. The amount depends on the highest balance, not on the interest.

The FY2025-26 budget raised the exemption from ৳1 lakh to ৳3 lakh, and the FY2026-27 budget proposed ৳4 lakh. Above that, the slab table in the calculator charges ৳150 up to ৳5 lakh, ৳500 up to ৳10 lakh, ৳3,000 up to ৳50 lakh and more for larger balances. Because the duty is per calendar year, an FDR opened in November and maturing next November is charged for two years.

With 10% tax and the slab duty, the 1-year ৳5,00,000 FDR matures at ৳5,44,850. You keep ৳44,850 of the ৳50,000 interest.

How is DPS maturity calculated?

A DPS is a monthly deposit. Each instalment earns interest only from the month it goes in. Interest is worked out monthly on the running balance and added to the balance every quarter. This method matches published bank tables closely: for ৳1,000 a month at 8.75% for 20 years it gives ৳6,46,604 against a bank table figure of ৳6,46,520.

For ৳5,000 a month at 9% for 5 years you deposit ৳3,00,000. The balance before deductions is ৳3,79,278. After 10% source tax on the ৳79,278 interest, you receive about ৳3,71,350. If the interest were added every month instead of every quarter, the gross figure would be ৳3,79,949, a small difference.

Banks print the before-tax amount in their tables, so the calculator shows both. Banks also differ in rounding and posting dates, so a gap of a few taka is normal.

Tips

  • Ask your bank three questions: the day count, whether renewal uses the new rate, and whether tax is cut at each renewal or only at the end.
  • Submit your tax return and give the bank the PSR. On ৳50,000 of interest that saves ৳2,500 a year in source tax.
  • Small balances skip excise. A ৳2,00,000 FDR sits under the exemption and pays no duty at all.
  • FDR and DPS balances usually count toward zakat. The zakat calculator adds them to your other assets.
  • To count the exact days between two dates for an actual/360 check, use the date difference calculator.

Questions

How is FDR interest calculated?

Interest = principal × yearly rate × term, paid at maturity. A ৳5,00,000 FDR at 10% for one year earns ৳50,000 gross. Some banks use actual days ÷ 360 for the term, which pays slightly more.

How much tax is cut from FDR interest in Bangladesh?

Usually 10% of the interest, deducted at source under section 102 of the Income Tax Act 2023. If you can't show a proof of return submission (PSR), the rate is 50% higher, which makes it 15%.

Is excise duty charged on FDR?

Yes. Excise duty is charged once per calendar year when the balance crosses the exemption limit, which the FY2026-27 budget proposed at ৳4 lakh. The amount rises with the highest balance in that year.

Which is better, a 3-month or 1-year FDR?

At the same rate, 3-month renewals earn a bit more because interest compounds each quarter: ৳51,713 vs ৳50,000 gross on ৳5 lakh at 10%. But the renewal rate can change, and a 1-year FDR locks the rate for longer.

How is DPS maturity value calculated?

Interest is worked out each month on the balance, including that month's instalment, and added every quarter. ৳5,000 a month at 9% for 5 years reaches about ৳3,79,278 before tax.

Is FDR interest added to my taxable income?

Yes. The interest is income, and the source tax already cut counts as an advance payment. Whether you owe more depends on your total income and tax slab, so include it when you file your return.

Is a bank FDR better than a mutual fund SIP?

They do different jobs. An FDR pays a fixed, known rate with little risk. A mutual fund can earn more over long periods but can also fall. See what a monthly investment might do with the SIP calculator.
