HEIC to JPG Converter
Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG, PNG or WebP in bulk. Runs in your browser.
About this heic to jpg converter
This HEIC to JPG converter turns iPhone, iPad and camera HEIC or HEIF photos into JPG, PNG or WebP files that open everywhere. It is for anyone who got a pile of .HEIC files on a Windows PC, an Android phone or a work laptop and just needs ordinary pictures.
It runs in any modern browser, not only Safari, because the HEIC decoder runs inside the page. Your photos are never uploaded. Drop in one photo or a few hundred, and several convert side by side on a multi-core computer.
It also keeps the date taken, the camera details and the wide-gamut color profile. Location data is removed by default.
Features
Works in every browser
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. No codec pack, no app, no account.
JPG, PNG or WebP
JPG for compatibility, PNG for lossless edits, WebP for small web files. A quality slider sets JPG and WebP compression.
Keeps date, camera info and colors
The EXIF block and the ICC color profile are copied into each JPG, so photo apps still sort by date taken and colors don't come out dull. PNG keeps the color profile.
GPS removed by default
Location tags are emptied and their values zeroed before the EXIF is copied, so you can share converted photos without revealing where they were taken.
Every image in a file
Most HEIC files hold one picture, but HEIF can hold several. Pick Every image and each one comes out as its own numbered file.
Batch convert with ZIP
Each row shows the sizes and the date taken. Download files singly or in one ZIP.
How to use the heic to jpg converter
- 1Add HEIC or HEIF photos from your iPhone, iPad or camera.
- 2Choose JPG, PNG or WebP, the quality and what metadata to keep.
- 3Download each photo, or all of them as a ZIP.
When to use it
iPhone photos on a Windows PC
Copied your camera roll to a PC and got .HEIC files the Photos app won't open? Convert the batch to JPG and they open anywhere.
Upload forms that reject HEIC
Visa portals, job sites and school systems often accept only JPG or PNG. Convert, then resize the photo to the required pixel size if the form has one.
Sharing without location
Keep GPS removal on before you post photos of your home or your kids. Check exactly what metadata a photo still carries if you want to be sure.
Receipts and documents shot on a phone
Convert the photos, then combine them into a single PDF for an expense report or a rental application.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is Apple's name for HEIF images whose pictures are compressed with HEVC (H.265), the same codec used for 4K video. HEIF itself is a container format defined in ISO/IEC 23008-12. iPhones have saved photos this way by default since iOS 11 in 2017. Apple chose it because HEVC can store a photo in roughly half the space a JPG needs for similar quality.
The catch is support. HEVC is patent-licensed, so many browsers and apps leave it out. Windows needs two Microsoft Store add-ons to show HEIC, and the HEVC one is paid on most PCs.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
A little, in theory, because JPG is lossy too. At quality 90 or above you will not see a difference at normal viewing size. The JPG usually ends up somewhat larger than the HEIC, because JPG compresses less efficiently. In our tests a 3.0 MB, 12 MP iPhone HEIC became a 3.5 MB JPG at quality 92 and a 2.8 MB JPG at quality 85.
Choose PNG if you plan to edit the photo heavily and want no further loss. Expect PNG files of 18 to 30 MB for a 12 MP photo. WebP at quality 85 is the smallest choice (that same photo came out at 2.3 MB) and fine for websites.
What happens to Live Photos, Portrait mode and HDR?
A HEIC file can carry more than the picture you see. Here is what this converter does with each part:
- Live Photos are two files: a HEIC still and a short .MOV clip with the same name. The still is converted. If you drop the .MOV in too, it is listed and left alone.
- Rotation is stored in the HEIF file itself. The picture is decoded upright and the EXIF Orientation tag is reset to 1, so viewers don't rotate it a second time.
- Portrait mode depth maps and HDR gain maps are separate hidden layers. They are not copied, so you get the standard picture.
- Display P3 color: iPhones shoot in a wider color space than standard sRGB. The embedded profile is copied into JPG and PNG output so reds and greens stay vivid.
- HEIF image sequences (bursts, animations) aren't supported. You get a clear message instead.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC?
Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG, at the cost of more storage. To keep HEIC on the phone but get JPG when you copy to a computer, go to Settings > Photos and set Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic.

Tips
- Converting hundreds of photos? Leave the tab in front. Browsers slow down background tabs.
- A 24 or 48 MP photo from a recent Pro iPhone needs a lot of memory. Convert those in smaller batches on phones and tablets.
- Need smaller files for email? Compress the converted JPGs afterwards. That gives more control than lowering quality here.
- Want to cut a person or product out of the photo next? The background remover opens HEIC files directly.
Questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, add your HEIC photos and download the JPGs. Nothing needs installing, and the photos are converted on your own PC rather than uploaded.
Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEVC compression in HEIC is more efficient than JPG, so keeping the same visual quality takes more bytes. At quality 92 a JPG is often 5 to 40% bigger than the HEIC. Lower the quality slider, or pick WebP, for smaller files.
Does the JPG keep the date the photo was taken?
Yes, when Keep date, camera info and color profile is on. The original EXIF block is copied into the JPG, so photo libraries sort it by date taken instead of the conversion date.
Why are my converted photos sideways in some converters but not here?
HEIF stores rotation inside the file, separate from EXIF. This tool decodes the photo upright and resets the EXIF Orientation tag, so no viewer rotates it twice.
Can I convert Live Photos?
Yes, the still part. A Live Photo is a HEIC still plus a short MOV video. The HEIC becomes a normal JPG, and the video is not converted.
Why does a photo take a few seconds?
The decoder is compiled to JavaScript, and a 12 MP iPhone photo is stored as dozens of small HEVC tiles. Expect roughly 2 to 10 seconds per photo, with several running at once.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG or WebP instead?
Yes. Choose PNG for lossless output with the color profile kept, or WebP for the smallest files. For other formats and conversions, use the image converter.
