About this salary calculator

This salary calculator converts your pay between hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and yearly figures. Enter one number, pick its period, and every other period appears at once.

It's built for job seekers comparing an hourly offer with a salaried one, freelancers setting a day rate, and anyone asking what their annual salary is per hour. You set your own hours and days per week, so a 37.5-hour week or a six-day week works as well as the usual 40 hours.

You can also subtract unpaid leave, see what you really earn per hour after paid holidays, and apply a flat tax percentage for a rough take-home figure. It works in any currency and nothing leaves your browser.

Features

  • Eight pay periods at once

Hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly (26 paychecks), semi-monthly (24), monthly, quarterly and yearly, all from one input.

  • Your own work pattern

Hours per week and days per week are editable, so part-time, compressed and six-day schedules convert correctly.

  • Unpaid leave

Enter unpaid days and the yearly, monthly and other totals drop in proportion. The cost of the leave is shown on its own line.

  • Pay per hour actually worked

Add paid holidays and vacation days to see how much each hour you are really at work earns.

  • Simple take-home estimate

A flat tax and deductions percentage adds a take-home column. No country tax tables are guessed for you.

  • Shareable and exportable

The address bar keeps your inputs, so a link reopens the same numbers. The full table downloads as CSV.

How to use the salary calculator

  1. 1Enter your pay and pick its period, such as per hour or per year.
  2. 2Set your hours and days per week, plus any unpaid leave or tax %.
  3. 3Read your pay for every period in the table, or download it as CSV.

When to use it

  • Comparing two job offers

Turn a 24 an hour contract and a 48,000 a year salary into the same unit before you decide.

  • Setting a freelance day rate

Start from the yearly income you want and read the daily and hourly rate that gets you there.

  • Budgeting a monthly paycheck

Convert an annual salary to monthly or bi-weekly pay and plan rent and bills around it.

  • Planning unpaid time off

See what two weeks of unpaid leave costs before you ask for it.

How do you convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by your hours per week, then by 52 weeks. At 25 an hour and 40 hours a week, that's 25 × 40 × 52 = 52,000 a year. Divide by 12 and the monthly figure is 4,333.33.

Going the other way, divide the yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. A 60,000 salary over 2,080 hours (40 × 52) is 28.85 an hour. A 37.5-hour week gives 1,950 hours, so the same salary is worth 30.77 an hour.

The calculator always uses 52 weeks. Some employers use 52.14 weeks (365 ÷ 7) or a fixed 260 working days, so a payslip can differ from this result by a fraction of a percent.

What's the difference between bi-weekly and semi-monthly pay?

Bi-weekly means every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly means twice a month, usually on the 15th and the last day, which is 24 paychecks.

On a 52,000 salary, a bi-weekly check is 2,000 and a semi-monthly check is 2,166.67. The yearly total is the same. With bi-weekly pay, two months a year have three paydays, which is handy if you budget by month.

How does unpaid leave change your salary?

A five-day week has 260 working days in a 52-week year. Each unpaid day removes one 260th of the yearly pay. Ten unpaid days on a 60,000 salary cost 60,000 × 10 ÷ 260 = 2,307.69.

Your hourly and daily rates stay the same. You are simply paid for fewer of them, so the monthly and yearly figures fall while the hourly line doesn't move.

Paid days off work differently. They don't change your pay at all, but they shrink the hours you actually work. With 20 paid days off on a 40-hour week, you work 1,920 hours, so a 60,000 salary pays 31.25 per hour worked instead of 28.85.

What this calculator doesn't do

It doesn't apply federal, state or national tax brackets, because they change every year and depend on things like filing status and allowances. The tax percentage box is a flat estimate. If you know your effective rate from last year's return or payslip, use that.

It also doesn't add overtime, shift premiums or bonuses. Add a bonus to the yearly figure yourself, or convert it separately.

Tips

  • Use the hours in your contract, not the hours you happen to work. Unpaid overtime makes your real hourly rate lower, and that's worth knowing too.
  • When you compare a salaried job with an hourly contract, add the value of paid holidays and benefits to the salaried side. A contractor rate often needs to be 25% to 40% higher to match.
  • For your effective tax rate, divide last year's total tax by your gross pay. That's closer to reality than your top bracket.
  • Counting working days between two dates? The business days calculator skips weekends and holidays for you.
  • If you work in Bangladesh, run your yearly salary through the Bangladesh income tax calculator for the real slab-by-slab tax.

Questions

How much is 25 an hour per year?

25 an hour is 52,000 a year at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. That's 4,333.33 a month, 2,000 every two weeks and 1,000 a week, before tax.

How much is 60,000 a year per hour?

60,000 a year is 28.85 an hour on a 40-hour week (2,080 hours). On a 37.5-hour week it's 30.77 an hour.

How many working hours are in a year?

A full-time 40-hour week gives 2,080 hours a year (40 × 52). Take away 10 public holidays and 15 vacation days and you actually work about 1,880 hours.

How many working days are in a year?

There are 260 weekdays in a 52-week year with a five-day week. A six-day week gives 312. Public holidays and leave come off those totals.

How do I convert a monthly salary to hourly?

Multiply the monthly salary by 12, then divide by your hours per week times 52. A 4,000 monthly salary on 40 hours a week is 48,000 ÷ 2,080 = 23.08 an hour.

Is bi-weekly pay the same as twice a month?

No. Bi-weekly is every two weeks, 26 paychecks a year. Twice a month (semi-monthly) is 24 paychecks. Each semi-monthly check is a little bigger, but the yearly total matches.

Does the calculator include tax?

Only as a flat percentage you enter. It doesn't apply any country's tax brackets, so use your effective tax rate for a realistic take-home figure.
